Plum History
not your typical dot.com
Garden Plum Enterprises was founded by Wendy J. Stevens
on October 1st, 2001. After 8 years of working for dot.coms,
riding the high tech economy roller coaster, and confronting
women's issues head-on in the man's tech world (she is blonde!),
Wendy decided that it was time to spread her spiritual wings and utilize the Internet for
a 'good' cause.
Wendy wanted to return to the original
intent of the Internet - to share information. And she wanted to add innovative high tech ways of healing on several levels. The site has become a nurturing web site that offers assistance to those who help others. It has actually become a virtual rejuvenative visit for many; a spiritual watering hole for the human journey. Now, 6 years later, she is more grateful than ever for her rebellious beginnings that have turned to a nurturing business that nurtures her and nurtures others. Look how the garden grows!
auditory, visual, speakable
- maybe even laugh-out-loudable (visit the
garden)
It is Wendy's belief that there is
an entire league of us that could benefit by enjoying
the Internet as an emotional and supportive tool - rather
than a flashing, blinking, mass marketing page that makes
our brains go numb.
support the arts
Ultimately - yes, the artwork & products are the machine that supports
this site. This site is designed to support artists,
giving them as much marketing and sales support as possible.
Our shop items are made by local and national artists. Some
of them are women trying to make a living, starving artists,
celebrated mother-nurturers, father-nurturers...each piece
as soulful as its' creator. You will not find massive imports of products from other countries. One wonderful example is Sculptor Debbie Berrow. She lives on a farm in Oregon with many others who live on the farm, and together, they make sculptures in a community setting. And that is how they live. This is just one example of many others offering their products on this web site. As you browse the store, look to the top of the screen for the Artist's bio and their individual stories. There are goat farms in Nepal being supported, women's rights in Virginia, suicide prevention efforts in Washington, etc., etc.
